Our current beneficiary is HOPE Foundation. HOPE in SA is raising funds to help the HOPE Foundation build the Caguba Children's Library.
With roughly 400,000 residents, Caguba is a large administrative area governed by a traditional leader of the Mpondo tribe. Community taps and electricity have only been installed in the area in the past three years. Before that, candles/paraffin lamps were used and residents collected rainwater or fetched water from the river. Even now, there are regular power failures and a lack of water in the community taps. Unemployment is high and most people are subsistence farmers and/or rely on State grants (child-support, old age pensions, disability grants). HIV/AIDS is also very high.
There are nine schools in Caguba, serving at least a half dozen main villages, and about 2000 primary school children. None of the schools in Caguba has a library.
With HOPE in SA's help, a public library will be built to serve the community – view a larger picture of the drawings by clicking on one of the images below:
With your help, HOPE in SA can build the first children's library in Caguba, giving the children a safe place to learn.
